Well every once in a while, I will give you some good, real news to go along with my fluff stuff! So today I have a story on a girl by the name of  Michelle Kosilek, who is a transsexual male inmate undergoing hormone and hair removal treatment to become a woman. He is in jail for killing his wife at the time in 1990. He maintains it was self defense after she poured boiling tea on his genitals.

He won a court order to have treatment started, but stopping short of ordering a sex change, while in prison. But now he says they have stopped the treatment while the courts review his case. He claims he has not been able to continue his hormone treatments and hair removal for months. As a result he is seeing signs of his steps toward being a woman reversing.

So now he is suing again to have it move forward and complete his sex change. Sooo, who is right, who is wrong? Is he a horrible murderer, or victim? Even if he did murder his wife with foresight,  is it cruel and unusual to withhold treatment? It seems to me they should have figured this all out before allowing him to start the treatments.

Now that he has undergone all the treatments he should be allowed to complete the process. He has tried to commit suicide twice.  Of course many are watching this case, as there are  many other inmates wanting a sex change.  It is a very complex and difficult case. On the one hand you have those saying inmates have it too easy and should not be getting all the stuff they have at our expense.

On the other hand is transgender groups fighting for the rights of transsexuals to become the person they really are. But should a murderer be able to get that? If a person was on death row, scheduled to be put to death in 6 months, should that person be allowed to start treatments to become a different gender?

I’ll be damned if I know! I don’t know enough of the facts in this case to say anything. But I do know this. If they started the treatments, then it’s too late. They should finish it and let him become the woman she wants to be. Otherwise it is indeed cruel and unusual punishment.
